Latest part in the Go Pro Athlete Video Series from TGR is Ian McIntosh. He shows what Pemberton has to offer and apparently it’s cracking eggs in the morning, powder lines by lunch and forest trails on the bike by mid afternoon! It’s a standard day!

Finding extra footage from the end of the season is always a bonus. Aidan Sheahan is someone who’s been on the radar for a while now and I’m pleased to hear that there’s an extra edit to keep us going through these ‘summer’ months.

The 2012 West Coast Invitational Mammoth shifted gears in a BIG way. For 10 years straight the WCI showcase event was a Snowboard Rail Jam at the Village. The powers-that-be decided it was time for a change… And, despite a markedly low snow year, Mammoth forged ahead with plans to move the excitement of WCI from the Village to Canyon Lodge.

A Village Rail Jam would forego something totally new for WCI – a skier/snowboarder paired team Big Air Comp at Canyon Lodge. No snow at Canyon Lodge? No problem… Actually, more like BIG problem. A team of snowcats worked day and night to push a tremendous amount of snow from the lower slopes of Lincoln Mountain all the way down to Canyon Lodge.

The result? 1) A beautifully constructed 70-foot (90 to the sweet spot), true table, channel gap jump. 2) A spectacular display of top-caliber ski & snowboard talent under the prime-time lights – see video above for a sampling of the action that went down.

Nike Chosen ended a little while ago with Andrew Napier and Dale Talkington taking the top spot. It was well worth it as they were the owners of an incredible entry. They were lifted straight out of Salt Lake City and dropped into Keystone, Colorado with some other Nike talent to join the team photo shoot. West Coast Sessions… It’s the proud owner of some great edits being made at the moment and this one from Evan Heath is up there. The contest entries for WCS will be dropping in a couple of days time (17th) so I’ll try to get my hands on them for you. But for now, watch the recap video.

The North Face Freeski Open of New Zealand is hitting its 8th year and they’re proud to announce that it’s been officially handed the status of an AFP World Tour Gold level event. This means that it will attract more of the top skiers down under, not that it didn’t do already!

The Freeski Open of New Zealand is the only event in the world that organises Halfpipe, Slopestyle and Big Mountain comps into one event. Halfpipe and Slopestyle are held at the prestigious Snow Park NZ and are both AFP Gold level events. The big mountain competition is going to be held in a mystery location outside of the Remarkable, and is a 3 Star Freeride World Tour qualifying event.

All potential competitors should be aware that registration fills up quickly, so get in early from the 1st of June at www.register-for-events.com.

The description tied in with this video was, “another year of coaching the kids at the snowpark kitzsteinhorn.” Now this has to be one of the strangest camp videos I’ve seen for a while because, well, the starting segment is a bit odd. I’m overly fluent in German so it’s a little lost on me but it doesn’t take anything away from their skiing. Still looks like one hell of a camp…

Park Rats – you know the type. It’s the skier that constantly hangs around the park and doesn’t do any other type of skiing. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone that likes park rats. Bold statement but it’s true. Every skier or snowboarder I’ve ever met has always said to me that park rats are irritating.
As bold as this may be, there’s been a fair few skiers that have spent a lot of time in the park and made a decent career out of it.

Now, I know that it wasn’t the best start in the world but when you watch Collin Collins being a part time park rat, you really take it all in. He might not spend too much time in the park but the time he spends, he shreds well. Here he is at Park City.
